RY Week 1 Got Me Like...

I've been putting off writing this because I have sooo many thoughts and I do not know where to begin, and probably could never end. 

I guess I will start with: I've been touched by friends/fam who have already reached out to ask how things are going so far and I generally respond with something along the lines of "SOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!" Sorry I can't be more articulate, but it's the truth! 

I am definitely in some sort of honeymoon phase... whether it's with Buenos Aires or Remote Year or 2018... I don't know but it's fantastic. I've been as giddy as a kid on Christmas for the last 7 days and I seem to not require sleep and not get hungover despite excessive alcohol consumption. The constant warmth and sunshine also don't hurt (sorry East Coasters)!

Everything about this experience so far has exceeded expectations. Every day is packed to the brim with new sights, tastes, words (no hablo español but I need to learn stat), stories, and I can't get enough! Buenos Aires is gorgeous and so charming and the locals are SO friendly, my studio apartment is v nice (bonus points for rooftop pool), the Remote Year staff are wonderful- genuine and super organized and on top of everything. I guesssss the other RY group members are cool too (JK they're awesome!!). 

I'm so grateful to be at the beginning of what I can already tell will be an extremely rewarding adventure.

Serbia is hands down the most random country on my travel itinerary this year. My boss told me he would rather go to prison than go to Serbia (LOL). I heard similar sentiments from most people about the country. The conversations would go something like this: Friend 1: "So where are you living next month?" Me: "Belgrade... it's in Serbia." The Prague Blague... see what I did there?

I wanted to skip writing a post about Prague. My feelings about the city are complex, and potentially controversial (I didn't love it... eeeek), and part of me wanted to just put it behind me as I start living the Serbia life. But writing these posts about each month really has helped me process my experiences, and hopefully has given you (yes, you, all 4 of my blog readers out there!) some insight into the weird world of living in a different city/country every month. Cape Town Is The Most Lekker

South Africa is so lekker bru! I lived in Cape Town for my last month of Remote Year, and it was the perfect place to close out the unreal experience of living and traveling throughout five different continents in 2018. These are some of my lekker mates embracing lekker van culture What does "lekker" mean? Ah, good question. It's Afrikaans slang and I'd say the closest equivalent in the USA would be "awesome" or more recently "lit" (is lit dead in 2019? if so, please clue me in to it's replacement?).
