Why Does This Blog Exist?

I've never thought of myself as someone who would blog. Leave the writing to journalists and post on Facebook or Twitter to get your thoughts out...or just keep a journal... or just... talk to people?

But I couldn't put in words how much I have relied on the blogs, vlogs and stories of Remote Year participants and other long-term travelers while preparing for this experience I'm about to embark upon. THEY HAVE BEEN SO HELPFUL. I would be lost without them.

Which brings me to the whole point of this post: Why am I starting this blog?

1. Blogs helped me prepare for Remote Year, I'm hoping to pay it forward. Maybe one of my entries will help a future traveler or Remote Year participant.

2. So my awesome family and friends can stalk the shit out of my travels. Guys, I miss you already. I'm not doing this so I don't have to keep in touch with you, just so that I don't forget to tell you any cool stories. Please email me/text me/VISIT ME whenever you want!!!!

3. Pour moi! As as a record of my travels, as a creative outlet, as a way to force myself to articulate (or attempt to articulate) my thoughts and feelings beyond posting silly snapchats and pretty instas (but those will also still be a thing).

If you're already bored, get outta here! If you don't like reading but got intrigued when I mentioned social media, follow me on IG @susanmirkin and/or snap @smirkin.
