Saying Goodbye to Buenos Aires

In what feels like no time at all, I had to say goodbye to my first Remote Year city: Buenos Aires. I arrived in Argentina a month ago with minimal expectations and honestly not a whole lot of interest in the country, relative to my excitement about some of the other locations I'll be living in throughout the year (lookin at you @Croatia @Portugal @South Africa!!!).

Happy hour during our first week of RY which simultaneously
feels like it was a million years ago and also 5 seconds ago

And WOW did Buenos Aires change that for me. I fell in love with the city almost immediately and I fell hard. From the murals on every street corner, to the vibrant, super friendly locals, to the extremely laid back pace of life (yes, even slower than San Diego), I jived with Buenos Aires on every level.

Toward the end of the month, I began reflecting on what aspects of the city stood out to me the most, and here are some of the highlights:

The people: I'll also lump "the history" into this category. Without going into too much detail, Buenos Aires has a tumultuous history of extreme hardship and political turmoil. At one point within the last 20 years, they had 5 different presidents in one week!! Mind. Blown. And despite this background, the locals are cheerful, loving, welcoming people, excited to share their city with newcomers, and clearly full of pride for their home.

The street art: I am not a big art fan, never have been and I'm guessing never will be. But the bright, colorful murals on pretty much every street turned otherwise nondescript neighborhoods into enchanting landscapes. I had to stop myself from whipping out my phone to take pictures every 5 steps of every walk I took.

The scene: BA is a big ass city with A LOT to do. From restaurants, to beer gardens, to speakeasies, to wild nightclubs, you cannot go wrong. Within 4 weeks I had top notch experiences in each type of place...which is probably why I was out until 5am more often than not. Whoops. Maybe I can catch up on sleep in Córdoba...

So with clear eyes and a full heart (#cantlose), I said "Chau" to Buenos Aires as our group traveled to our next new home in Cordoba, Argentina. Based on the first 48 hours in Córdoba, I can already tell I'm about to have another city love affair on my hands.

Thanks for the memories Buenos Aires! <3
